The Latina/o Studies Program and Kino Corner Present!: George Romero’s “The Amusement Park” (1975)

Join us for the second of our bi-yearly collaborations with UNC Film Studies’ Kino Corner program (tarheels.kinocorner.live.edu): George Romero’s 1975 film The Amusement Park! This event will take place in Greenlaw Room 101 on March 27th at 6:30 pm.
The Amusement Park was commissioned by the Lutheran Service Society of Western Pennsylvania in 1973 as a film about elder abuse. It was all but lost, with even Romero’s widow not learning of the film’s existence until 2017, when a 16 mm print and DVD used for a small film festival retrospective on Romero’s work in 2001 turned up. A 4K restoration was completed in 2019. The film is a harrowing indictment of how elders are treated in America, which unfortunately remains all too relevant today.
The film will be introduced by Dr. Henry Veggian. Join Kino and the LSP in viewing this free event and stay for a Q&A about the film and Romero’s work afterward.
